See the triangular shaped scar on this tree? It is believed to be a "trail blaze" made by one of the early exploration expeditions,

likely that of Gunnison in 1853 as they marked their trail. The tree is either limber pine or bristlecone pine, both of

which live to be ancient trees and develop lovely character as they age under harsh conditions.

It's similar to the character we all develop in difficult circumstances. That's Betty's hand pointing to the marker. Myrna took the picture.
